Jira Product Discovery Pricing & Review (2026): Costs, Pros & Cons

Jira Product Discovery (JPD) is Atlassian's tool for collecting product ideas, scoring them and turning them into roadmaps. Jira Product Discovery pricing looks simple at first. The real bill depends on who counts as a creator and how you pay.

Jira Product Discovery is free for up to 3 creators, and contributors are free on every plan. Standard costs $10.50 and Premium $26.25 per creator per month on monthly billing; annual plans are sold in bands from $525 a year. Enterprise is billed annually, and Atlassian lists $35,500 a year for its 51 to 100 user tier.

Prices checked on atlassian.com (the pricing page and the licensing page) on October 25, 2026. All prices in USD.

Four details change what you pay:

  • Contributors cost nothing. Every plan allows any number of contributors for free. Each one still needs a free Atlassian account.
  • Monthly rates fall past 25 creators. On Standard, creators 26 to 250 cost $9.45 each, creators 251 to 1,000 cost $8.40, and each one after 1,000 costs $7.35. Premium steps down to $24.15, $21 and $18.90. So the $7.35 to $10.50 spread is a volume discount on monthly billing, not an annual price.
  • SSO costs extra below Enterprise. On Free, Standard and Premium, Atlassian Guard features such as enforced single sign-on need a separate Atlassian Guard Standard subscription.
  • Atlassian's pages disagree on automation. The pricing page grid counts steps: 100 per subscription per month on Free, then 300, 500 and 750 per user per month. The Premium page still shows the older 500 rules a month (Standard) and 1,000 rules per user a month (Premium). This guide uses the pricing grid.

Many guides still quote $10 and $25 per creator. Those are older figures.

How Jira Product Discovery Bills: Creators vs Contributors

JPD pricing is per creator, not per person who opens the tool. The creator vs contributor split is the biggest lever on your bill.

Who Counts as a Creator

Atlassian calls creators the "billable, paid users" of JPD. They create and manage projects, ideas, fields and views. Space admins are licensed users too, so each admin counts as a creator.

You pay only for creators. A team of 4 product managers and 40 engineers who just vote and comment pays for 4 seats.

Contributors Are Free, but Need an Atlassian Account

Contributors see a discovery space in read-only mode. They can comment, add insights, vote and react. They can create ideas only after a creator turns on "Allow contributors to create ideas" in Space settings, under Features.

Anyone with app access to Jira, Jira Service Management or Jira Work Management is a contributor by default. Atlassian's app access guide and roles guide list what each role can do (checked October 25, 2026).

JPD licensing: a few paid creators at the center, with free contributors who vote, comment and add insights.

Do You Need a Jira Subscription?

No. The licensing FAQ says JPD is a separate product, not an app, and you can use it on its own. Your creator count does not have to match your Jira user tier either.

Jira, Jira Service Management and Confluence integrations are included. JPD is Cloud only.

What Jira Product Discovery Really Costs a Small Team

Here is the Jira Product Discovery cost for common team sizes, worked from Atlassian's licensing tables. USD list prices, checked October 25, 2026.

Creators Standard, billed monthly Standard, billed annually Premium, billed monthly Premium, billed annually Cheaper option
3 $31.50 a month ($378 a year), or Free at $0 $525 $78.75 a month ($945 a year) $1,315 Monthly (or Free)
4 $42 a month ($504 a year) $525 $105 a month ($1,260 a year) $1,315 Monthly
5 $52.50 a month ($630 a year) $525 $131.25 a month ($1,575 a year) $1,315 Annual
8 $84 a month ($1,008 a year) $1,050 $210 a month ($2,520 a year) $2,625 Monthly
10 $105 a month ($1,260 a year) $1,050 $262.50 a month ($3,150 a year) $2,625 Annual
15 $157.50 a month ($1,890 a year) $1,600 $393.75 a month ($4,725 a year) $3,950 Annual
25 $262.50 a month ($3,150 a year) $2,650 $656.25 a month ($7,875 a year) $6,550 Annual

The Annual Billing Trap: You Pay for the Whole Band

Atlassian bills annual plans "for the tier most closely matching your creator count". Up to 25 creators, those tiers are bands of 5: 1 to 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 15, 16 to 20 and 21 to 25. After that come 26 to 50 and 51 to 100.

The pricing page promises savings of up to 17% on annual billing. You get close to that only at the top of a band: about 17% at 5, 10 and 20 creators, about 15% at 15 and about 16% at 25. Lower in a band, the saving shrinks or turns into a loss.

On Standard, monthly billing is cheaper at 1 to 4, 6 to 8, 11 to 12 and 16 creators. At 21 creators the two are almost equal ($2,646 a year monthly against $2,650 annual). Premium follows the same pattern, except that annual already wins at 21.

Annual JPD billing climbs in steps of 5 creators, while monthly billing rises one creator at a time.

The rule is simple. Buy annual when your creator count sits at or near the top of a band. Otherwise stay monthly, where the minimum term is one month.

Costs People Forget

  • Atlassian Guard for SSO, a separate subscription below Enterprise.
  • Jira Service Management if you want a customer request portal that feeds ideas. It is a separate product, free for up to 3 agents and billed per agent after that (see the JSM pricing page, checked October 25, 2026).
  • Premium if you want Rovo AI, cross-project roadmaps or early access to the Product Collection.

Free vs Standard vs Premium: Which Plan Fits

Free: A Real Pilot for Up to 3 Creators

The Jira Product Discovery free plan is more than a teaser. All four view types, custom fields and formulas, insights, the Jira integration and idea import and export are included.

The limits are 3 creators, 2 GB of storage, 100 automation steps a month and community support only. Free has no published views and no project roles. Adding a fourth creator moves you to a 14-day Standard trial automatically, per the pricing page FAQ.

For a quick tour, see Atlassian's official Introduction to Jira Product Discovery video, which may show an older interface.

Standard: When You Need to Share Roadmaps

Standard adds published views: read-only links to a view, such as a Jira Product Discovery roadmap, for people without a Jira license. A site admin must switch the feature on first.

It also adds project roles, custom roles, data residency and 250 GB of storage. For most small teams with more than 3 creators, this is the realistic plan.

Premium: Cross-Team Roadmaps and Rovo AI

Jira Product Discovery Premium adds roadmaps that pull ideas from several projects into one view. It also adds view restrictions, idea hierarchies, tree view, Atlassian Rovo, admin insights, a sandbox and a 99.9% SLA.

On Jira Product Discovery standard vs premium, the licensing FAQ says Premium suits you if you:

  • Have product teams working across several projects and need one combined roadmap.
  • Want the same roadmap format and terms across teams.
  • Need tighter control over who can see and edit fields and ideas in each view.
  • Need to map how ideas relate to each other.

Enterprise in One Paragraph

Enterprise is annual only, and Atlassian routes buyers to sales. Its pricing data lists $35,500 a year for 51 to 100 users (October 25, 2026), with Guard, audit logs, analytics and up to 150 sites.

Free Trial, Refunds and Payment Terms

Standard and Premium both come with a free trial and need no payment details. The pricing page says 14 days for Standard or Premium, while the Premium page offers 30 days for Premium (both checked October 25, 2026).

Monthly plans can be refunded within the first paid month after the trial, and annual plans within 30 days of payment. Monthly plans are paid by card or PayPal, while annual plans can also use bank transfer, ACH, mailed check, or Net 14 or Net 30 terms. Community and Academic discounts apply.

Jira Product Discovery Review: Pros and Cons

Pros

  • A useful free plan for 3 creators, with every view type and no time limit.
  • You pay only for creators, while Jira users join free as contributors.
  • Ideas link straight to Jira work, so delivery progress shows on the idea.
  • Custom fields, formulas and all four view types on every plan.
  • Sold on its own, with no Jira subscription required.
  • Lower monthly rates for each creator past 25.

Cons

  • Cloud only, with no Data Center option.
  • Contributors need Atlassian accounts, so it is not a public customer board.
  • Published views are read-only and start at Standard.
  • Rovo AI, cross-project roadmaps and view restrictions need Premium or Enterprise.
  • SSO needs a separate Atlassian Guard subscription below Enterprise.
  • Small automation allowances, now counted in steps.
  • Annual band pricing punishes teams just past a band edge.
  • No public changelog page or customer survey feature on Atlassian's plan comparison (October 25, 2026). Rovo on Premium can draft release notes.

What Reviewers Say

On October 25, 2026, G2 showed 4.3 out of 5 from 199 reviews. Capterra showed 4.3 out of 5 from 16 reviews, last updated September 29, 2026.

Recent Capterra reviews praise easy idea capture, roadmaps and teamwork, and complain about a busy interface and export limits. Both sites still listed the older $10 and $25 prices, and Capterra said no free trial was available, which conflicts with Atlassian's pricing page.

Can Customers Post and Vote on Ideas in Jira Product Discovery?

Not on a public board. JPD is built for your team and other Atlassian users. Customers can reach it in three limited ways, per Atlassian's docs on October 25, 2026:

  1. As contributors. Voting, comments and (if switched on) idea creation are for contributors. Each one needs an Atlassian account and access to your site.
  2. Through published views. On Standard and up, you can publish a view, and a site admin can allow links that anyone on the internet can open. Visitors can filter and sort the view, and that is all.
  3. Through a service portal. Atlassian's documented route is a Jira Service Management portal plus an automation rule that turns each "New feature" request into an idea. It needs a JSM service space.
Three routes for customers into a JPD idea board: a read-only window, a service desk conveyor and a gate needing an account
Three ways customers reach JPD ideas: a read-only published view, a service portal with automation, or an Atlassian account.

Atlassian also has a separate Feedback app, sold with JPD and Rovo as the Product Collection. It is open only through an Early Access Program with a waitlist. JPD Premium is the minimum requirement, and no price is published.

Is Jira Product Discovery Worth It?

JPD is worth it for Jira teams that want ideas, scoring and roadmaps next to delivery. Teams with 3 or fewer creators get it free, and larger product groups get real value from Premium controls.

It is a poor fit if you do not use Atlassian tools, or if your main need is a public voting board, roadmap and changelog for customers.

How These Tools Were Compared

Every figure here comes from public pages. JPD prices and plan limits were checked on Atlassian's pricing and licensing pages on October 25, 2026, and role and sharing rules in Atlassian's support docs.

Alternatives were checked on each vendor's own pricing page the same day. G2 and Capterra figures were recorded in a browser that day. This guide reports no hands-on use of any product.

Jira Product Discovery Alternatives for Small Teams

These Jira Product Discovery alternatives bill in different ways. The order is not a ranking, and each price was checked on the vendor's own site on October 25, 2026.

1. Productboard: Best for a Heavier Product Management Suite

Productboard is priced per maker, and its pricing page shows no list prices and sets a 5-maker minimum for Business. Its Spark pricing FAQ lists Free at $0, Plus at $19 and Business at $59 per maker per month billed annually ($25 and $75 billed monthly). Pick it for a fuller product management suite.

2. Canny: Best for a Mature Public Voting Board

Canny is priced by tracked users. Its pricing page shows a Free plan for 25 tracked users, and Pro from $79 a month billed yearly. Pick it for a public board with a Jira integration and AI feedback capture.

3. Featurebase: Best for Feedback Plus a Help Desk

Featurebase is priced per seat. Its pricing page shows a Free plan for one seat and Growth at $29 per seat per month billed yearly, plus $0.49 per AI resolution. Pick it for a feedback board next to a help center and support inbox.

4. Tiny Team Feedback: Best for a Customer-Facing Feedback Portal

Tiny Team's Feedback module does a different job from JPD. It is a portal for customers: boards where they post and vote, a public roadmap, a changelog and surveys. If your team lives in Jira and needs scoring fields, idea hierarchies and delivery links, JPD is the better fit, and Tiny Team is not a replacement.

Key features: as many boards as you need, each private or public. Customers post, vote and comment after verifying their email, with no account or password, and duplicates are merged by hand. A read-only roadmap, a changelog with New, Improved and Fixed categories, and NPS, CSAT and product-market fit surveys share one portal on your own subdomain.

Pricing model: a one-time purchase per organization, with no subscription and no per-seat, per-creator or per-voter fees. It has its own free trial, with no credit card.

Pros: voters need no account, the changelog and surveys sit next to the board, and voters get emails when a request's status changes.

Where it falls short: no AI of any kind. There are no integrations with Jira, Slack or Zapier, no webhooks and no public API, so moving an idea into Jira is manual. It also lacks SSO, scoring, custom fields, CSV import or export and a multi-language portal.

Best for: small teams whose real need is a place where customers post and vote, see a roadmap and read a changelog. See current prices.

NPS and CSAT surveys Not on the plan comparison Yes, by portal link or website popup
Scoring fields and formulas Yes, every plan No
Jira integration Built in No
AI Rovo on Premium and Enterprise No
SSO Through an Atlassian Guard subscription (included on Enterprise) No; customers verify by email
Import and export Idea import and export on every plan No

Final Verdict

JPD is fairly priced for teams that already work in Jira, and the free plan is generous for up to 3 creators. Standard is the realistic plan once you need to share roadmaps, while Premium is for multi-team product groups or teams that want Rovo. Watch the annual bands, because monthly billing often wins just past a band edge.

If what you need is a customer-facing feedback portal, JPD is not built for that on its own.

For that job, Tiny Team's Feedback module is worth a look. It's a one-time purchase for your whole organization, with no subscription and no per-seat fees. See current prices, or create a free workspace and start the trial when you're ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jira Product Discovery free to use?

Yes, for up to 3 creators, with no time limit, 2 GB of storage and community support, and contributors are free on every plan. A fourth creator starts a 14-day Standard trial automatically, with no payment details; if you then stay on Standard, every creator is billed, including the first three. To start, use "Get it free" on the pricing page, or have a site admin add it from admin.atlassian.com.

How much does Jira Product Discovery cost per user?

Only creators are billed: Standard costs $10.50 and Premium $26.25 per creator per month for 1 to 25 creators on monthly billing, with lower rates past 25. Annual plans are sold in bands, from $525 (Standard) or $1,315 (Premium) a year for 1 to 5 creators. A Jira Product Discovery license is separate from a Jira license, and these prices are as of October 2026.

Is Jira Product Discovery different from Jira?

Yes, JPD is a separate product for ideas, prioritization and roadmaps, with its own bill. You can use it without a Jira subscription, and your creator count does not have to match your Jira user tier. When you use both, ideas link to Jira work, so delivery progress shows on each idea.

Is Jira Product Discovery worth it?

For teams already on Jira, usually yes. Free covers up to 3 creators, and Standard adds shared roadmaps at $10.50 per creator a month (October 2026). It is a weaker fit if you do not use Atlassian tools, or if you mainly need a public board where customers post and vote.

What is product discovery in Jira?

Product discovery in Jira means using Jira Product Discovery, a separate Atlassian product. Teams capture ideas and insights, score them with custom fields and formulas, and build roadmaps. Each idea can then link to Jira work, so the team can follow it from first request to delivery.
